The vigilant guardians of order in museums and other exhibition venues

Museum security guard

A museum attendant checks the artworks and exhibition objects in the exhibition rooms for completeness and visible damage and monitors compliance with visitor regulations, e.g., no photography, noise pollution, or safety distances. They unlock the premises before opening, oversee and direct visitor flows, politely ask visitors to leave the museum at closing time, and then lock up properly. They also visually check security devices such as alarm systems, surveillance cameras, and emergency exits to ensure they are functioning properly.

Where does a museum security guard work?

Museum security guards perform their supervisory duties in public and private museums as well as in exhibition, art, auction, and collection venues. In addition, they can also provide supervisory services in cinemas, theme parks, restaurants, discotheques, clubs, or at trade fairs.

Museum security guards ensure order and safety and contribute to the well-being of visitors.

HEL-WACHT museum security guards convey a sense of security and ensure a pleasant visitor experience through their attentive and orderly demeanor. Their uniform or suit further reinforces this feeling of authority and protection. In addition to monitoring compliance with visitor regulations, museum attendants represent the exhibition operator and are responsible for creating a pleasant atmosphere and providing service-oriented assistance. This also includes providing initial information and assistance. This necessary service orientation in no way conflicts with the main task of ensuring compliance with house rules and, in threatening situations, raising the alarm and evacuating appropriately.

Did you know?

Did you know that there are guidelines stipulating that supervisory staff must be clearly recognizable (e.g., by wearing a uniform) and that exhibition areas should be designed in such a way that they are clearly laid out and there are no blind spots for visitor monitoring?
